It’s Earth month and there are many reasons to celebrate. Since the first Earth Day 41 years ago, Americans have worked together to improve the health of our environment. The Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Safe Drinking Water Act forced industries to change how they operate. Today, as we celebrate those successes, I urge you to be mindful of the problems we still face because there is much work to be done and it truly starts – right at home! Now is the time to Do Your Part with your personal environment.
Indoor air pollution is a biggie. Certain household cleaners and paints actually contribute to indoor air pollution…and serious health issues. So do certain plastics, dry cleaning chemicals, pieces of furniture, pesticides, and even personal hair care products.
Then there’s water pollution. Nearly half of all above ground water sources are contaminated by things you and I do. It could be a simple as pouring grease down the drain or overusing chemicals in our yards.
There’s a lot a stake when it comes to making ourselves and our planet healthier. But we’ve proven we can work together to make a difference and there’s no better time to Do Your Part than right now. When we clean up our act at home – we can truly change the world.
