Apple computer is working to design a state-of-the-art environmentally friendly campus for the company. They are calling it a city within a city in Cupertino, California. The 98 acre site will be just two miles from the company’s current headquarters at One Infinite Loop. Spanish business newspaper El Economista reports the campus will be a car-free city that will claim to be the world’s first metropolis to shun carbon emissions altogether. The company plans to extend a network of underground tunnels to link the two campuses together so employees can move between buildings without cars. The campus plans to have an environmentally friendly design including renewable energy and green building materials. The Los Angeles Times reports famed architect Norman Foster may help create the sustainable metropolis. Foster helped create Masdar City in Abu Dahbi, a developing community of 50,000 people that bans cars and focuses on sustainable living. Apple has yet to officially confirm the plans but a spokesperson says the 57 buildings at its current campus are bursting at the seams and that new offices would give the company more space as it continues to grow.
